	Explanation of Juvenile Justice Data elements
	Referral - that point in time when a juvenile comes to be known to the juvenile justice system, by arrest, citation or other source, and an official record is opened. Delinquent Act is the offense (crime) committed by the juvenile that was brought to the attention of the Juvenile Justice System. Traffic citations are not reported to this office with the exception of DUI and Hit and Run which are delinquent acts. Status Offense � an offense committed by a juvenile that otherwise would not be considered an offense if committed by an adult. Smoking, curfew, truancy are examples of a status offense. Does not include liquor. Liquor by statute is considered a misdemeanor so does not fall under the status category. Administrative - those delinquent acts classified as technical violations of probation, hit and run traffic offenses and bench warrant/courtesy holds reported by individual counties and unknown/missing data. Data information is for State Fiscal Year 04, July 03 � June 04. Additional information can be obtained from the Juvenile Justice Programs Office.
